Slewing bearings in cranes
Slewing bearings are essential in a range of different crane types. Whether it be rotating tower cranes, mobile cranes, port cranes, or portal cranes involved in container handling, the slewing bearing plays a vital role. In this case the reliable transfer of inertial forces, wind forces, and tilting moments is crucial.
The load applied to the bearing plays a decisive role in determining which particular type is best suited for the crane in question. Single row ball slewing bearings should be implemented for low to medium loads. For high loads with an elevated tilting moment, double-row ball slewing bearings or triple-row roller slewing bearings are most appropriate. Depending on the drive design it may be necessary to equip the bearing with an external or internal gearing.
